Yesterday I went to the National Mall in Washington. We didn’t have much time, so we chose to visit the Korean War Memorial and Vietnam Memorial. As we were sitting on the benches by the Korean Memorial, a group of people came over carrying quite a few big, canvas bags. One of the men came and sat down next to my mom and me on the bench.
We asked him what the bags were for and what was in them. They contained a total of 3,000 flower bouquets that he, along with many other veterans, mostly from Vietnam, would be spreading out around all the memorials for Memorial Day on Monday. One man, years ago, decided that he would start this tradition and in the years since it has grown immensely. They fund raise throughout the year to purchase the bouquets.
My mom and I kept talking to this man as other people began spreading the bouquets throughout the Korean War Memorial. He fought in Vietnam and told us story after story about his experiences there and also when he returned home. I think we we ended up talking to him for 45 minutes to an hour. It may have been the best hour or so of my entire trip. I have so much respect for this man and everyone who has ever fought to protect our country. I am so grateful for what every member of our military has done and I feel as though saying thank you isn’t even sufficient.
You can’t base the future off of the past. It’s no good letting history completely dictate or hold back what is to come.
I really like this concept of driving, with our final destination being Washington DC, but stopping and looking around whenever we drive past something that could be interesting along the way.

and my child will definitely have these.

I’m starting to realize that taking risks is probably a really good thing. I’m too cautious about pretty much everything and I always choose the safe option of two. As stupid as it sounds, running around in the rain playing frisbee wearing just a sports bra and shorts was the most fun I think I’ve had in a while haha. I want to do stuff like that more often because it was just downright awesome! And other things, too. I just want to be a little less reserved and timid about things. I think it’ll make life a lot more fun, and who knows, maybe I’ll decide to do something that ends up being the best choice I ever make!

I got the OK from my PT today to run after my next appointment!!!! It’s been nine months since the last time I was allowed to run. Now I’m anxiously awaiting the XC training schedule email. I can actually start running and training when I’m supposed to with everyone else so I will be as ready as possible for the fall! My level of excitement associated with this may be verging on ridiculous but it’s the best news I’ve heard in a while!!
I literally cannot wait until next Tuesday! :D
And now I feel like an asshole. :/
…some people really infuriate me. It takes a lot to make me mad and getting to the level of infuriating me is quite the accomplishment. So congratulations?
In case you didn’t know, stepping on a running spike barefoot really hurts. And I now have a gash in the bottom of my foot. :(

I had to get an echocardiogram today and they played Indiana Jones on the TV during the procedure. Shia LaBeouf is in the movie and all I could think of every time he came on the screen was actual cannibal Shia LaBeouf. haha
